Checkpoint MN is a statewide, do-it-yourself scavenger hunt. Participants travel to checkpoint signs placed around the state and take a photo of themselves, friends, or family posing by the checkpoint sign. The goal of the Checkpoint MN project is to encourage people to get outdoors during the winter in Minnesota. The checkpoints are placed at 10 iconic sites around the state. See the full location list here.
The promotion runs from December 15, 2016, to February 12, 2017. Checkpoint locations will be revealed at 8:00 a.m., CST, on December 15, 2016.

How Many Points Do I Need To Get A Prize?
Everyone who registers with an email to create an account will receive a “coupon pack” in their user profile with several exclusive offers. Furthermore, everyone who visits any of the 10 locations will get a prize unless they have all been claimed. You only need 1 point minimum to get a prize.
Participants earn 1 point per “check-in.” (A check-in means you took a photo with an official checkpoint sign and uploaded it to your profile page during the contest period.) Once a photo is uploaded, points will be automatically added to a bank on your profile page. You can only check-in once at each checkpoint. A family or group of friends can create multiple profiles and earn points for each individual. (You may upload group shots that feature multiple participants to more than one account; each account earns one point.)
Participants can obtain 10 points total by visiting the 10 checkpoints.
Redeeming Points For Prizes:
Points can be used to redeem prizes on the Prize Page. More than $45,000 in prizing is to be given away. All prizes can be seen here. Larger prizes require more points. Included in the larger packages are backpacks, jackets, gift certificates, getaways, and more. Quantities are limited on all items. Be sure to monitor the prizing page for information on quantities. In the event that a prize item is unavailable, Checkpoint MN reserves the right to offer a substitute prize of equal value.
If sponsors offer prizes after the event starts we may choose to add these unforeseen prizes to the prize page for the enjoyment of the participants. Unfortunately, people who have already redeemed their point(s) may not have enough points remaining to claim that prize. There is no way for us to know what these prizes might be and we ask that all participants are understanding if and when that situation occurs.
An additional 8 prizes are awarded during each of the 8 weeks of the promotion. See the Prize Page each week for prize information. Each week we will randomly draw the name of a participant who completed a checkpoint that week (Thursday - Wednesday) to win that week’s raffle prize. Only participants who completed a Checkpoint that week are eligible to win. Winners will be contacted by email; with the email address they used to register.
Weekly Raffle Details - All eligible entries in this raffle received between 12:01 a.m. of the first day (Thursday) of the weekly raffle period and 11:59 p.m. CDT on the following Wednesday shall constitute that week’s raffle pool for the applicable weekly Raffle. For each week’s raffle, we will randomly select one provisional weekly raffle prize winner and three (3) alternates from among the pool of eligible entries.
All prizes will be awarded within 21 days after the raffle date, provided prizes are validly claimed. If the provisional winner declines or is ineligible, the prize will be offered to an eligible alternate. If the eligible alternate is ineligible or refuses the prize, a second eligible alternate will be offered the prize. A maximum of three alternates will be contacted in the prize-award period. If the potential prize winner and three alternates fail to respond or are ineligible, the prize will not be awarded.
Grand Prize Pack Raffle:
Ten Grand Prize packs will be assembled. All are valued approximately between $350-1500 MSRP, including a fat tire bike, ski package, and snowboard packages from The-House.com. See the complete details of the Grand Prize packs on the prize page. Winners will be contacted by email; with the email address they used to register.
How To Win A Grand Prize:
All Checkpoint MN participants will be entered into the Grand Prize raffle. Everyone who registers with their email address at CheckpointMN.com or registers through social media will receive one virtual “raffle ticket” added into a pot for the raffle. In addition, beyond registering with your email, for each point obtained while participating and checking in with a photo at a checkpoint location you receive an additional three (3) “raffle tickets” toward the Grand Prize packs. (For example, if you check-in at one location you receive one point to redeem toward prizes on the prizing page as well as three “raffle tickets”; whereas for five check-ins you receive five points to redeem toward prizes on the prizing page as well as 15 “raffle tickets” into the Grand Prize drawing.) Events & Roving Checkpoints:
Checkpoint MN may be at various events throughout the winter. There may be a roving sign at each of the events. People are encouraged to take photos with the sign but those photos will not be considered Checkpoints and no points will be awarded for them.
Anyone can participate, and we’re encouraging families to get outdoors with kids. But for legal and tax reasons, to redeem prizes, win weekly prizes, or win grand prizes you must be 18 years of age or older and a citizen of the United States. A family can set up a family profile page and earn points together but only the eligible adults in the family are allowed to win prizes, kids cannot redeem prizes. All sponsor staff are not eligible to participate in Checkpoint MN. Sponsor staff family members and friends are eligible to participate.
Participants retain all rights to any photo he/she submits. By entering the contest, all entrants consent to and grant non-exclusive license to Monopoint Media, Explore Minnesota, GearJunkie.com, and the Contest Sponsors, without further notification, compensation or attribution to the Entrant or any other party, to use, reproduce, modify, create derivative works from, print, publish, post, transmit, distribute, perform, adapt, enhance, and display, and otherwise make use of and distribute the photos.
We encourage you to take photographs of your experience at each checkpoint and upload them to the website. Monopoint Media, GearJunkie.com, Explore Minnesota, and the Contest Sponsors, may use these photographs in future publications or other materials, including social media using #OnlyinMN and #CheckpointMN.
Location Accessibility & Photo Quality:
Make sure to travel to the checkpoint at a time when they are open. Some of the locations have listed hours and we ask that all participants respect those hours because they exist for a reason. Please do not trespass to obtain a checkpoint photo. Though not as scenic or fun, photos taken after dark will be accepted though they will be reviewed for authenticity.
As a condition of participating in the Checkpoint MN event, participants agree to the following: “I understand that hiking and other outdoor activities involve risk to both persons and property. There are many variables (including, but not limited to, weather, fitness level, terrain features and outdoor experience) that must be considered prior to seeking a checkpoint or participating in the event. In no way shall I hold Monopoint Media, Explore Minnesota, or any sponsor responsible for any harm or injury caused to myself or my guests during the participation in the event.”
All applicable federal, state, provincial, local, and other taxes on prizes and any other costs and expenses associated with prize acceptance and use not specified herein as being provided, are the sole responsibility of the applicable winner.
